An abnormal heart rate or rhythm, commonly called heart palpitations. Heart palpitations may be benign or they may be symptoms of heart disease. Symptoms include: Irregularities of pulse (Normal pulse = 60 to 85 beats per minute; average for male adult is 72; average for female adult is 80)
Sensation of irregular heart beat
Pulse not equal in both wrists or both ankles
Symptoms indicating serious heart arrhythmias indicating need for emergency care:
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Sweating
Nausea
Lightedness/faintness
Risk factors:
Stress
Caffeine (coffee, tea, colas)
Exercise
Smoking
Occasional illicit drug use
Cocaine abuse
Family history (parents, siblings) of heart disease
History of cardiac, kidney, pulmonary thyroid disease
Diabetes
Hypotension
Hyperventilation
Experiencing of an injury or shock
Dehydration
Asthma medications
