INPUTS: 1. Made VOB from (patched) .pst file using IFOEdit 2. A single VOB from a professional (purchased) DVD Process: Import both to Nero Vision Express 3 (3.1.0.16), make dvd menu, burn dvd NOTE: CAN NOT ADD A VOB FILE TO NERO RECODE PROJECT UNLESS YOU HAVE THE DVD MASTER FILES. (in other words, you can't point it to an independant VOB-- it must have DVD structure, not just "VIDEO_TS" folder). file 1 (venture bros. clip), before DVD made (source file): (recodeinfo) 704x480, 2.24 mbps average, interlaced, 4:3 file 1 (venture bros. clip), after DVD made in Vi-Express: (recodeinfo) 704x480, 5.15 mbps average, interlaced, 4:3 ANALYSIS: UP-CODED Mbps BY A LARGE RATE! (from 2.24 mbps to 5.15 mbps) file 2 (paranoia), before DVD made (source file): (visionexpressinfo): file 2, before:=
(note: can not open this single VOB in nero recode)
file 2 (paranoia), after DVD made in Vi-Express:
(recodeinfo) 720x480 (CCIR-601 D1), 5.22 mbps average, interlaced, 16:9 wide
ANALYSIS: Looks about the same? (I think it recoded...look at numbers: from 5073 kbps average to 5220 kbps average?)
CONCLUSION: (I think) Nero Vision will ALWAYS re-encode video when making DVD (unless (?) ALL files
in the compilation are the exact same format; i.e. Resolution, aspect ratio, and kbps)
{
Note: the only way to test the "unless" statement is to try to make a DVD compilation with
files of all the same format, check "Smart encoding", and see if it changes the average
bitrate. }
