adrenal glands

A pair of glands located at the cranial pole (the "top") of each of the two kidneys [?].

Each adrenal gland is composed of two distinct endocrine tissues with separate embryonic origins;

• the ADRENAL MEDULLA, which produces NEUROTRANSMITTERS.
• the ADRENAL CORTEX, which produces STEROIDS , and

a.k.a.: Adrenals, Supradrenal Gland

The adrenal gland sits directly on top of the kidneys and consists of 2 separate organs, the cortex and the medulla . The medulla (inner portion) produces and secretes the catecholamine hormones , epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). The cortex (outer portion) produces the corticosteroids , glucocorticoids (such as cortisol) and mineralocorticoids (aldosterone).
