1. A process by which a client is told something about himself or herself by a nurse or therapist that encourages self-examination.
Also used to clarify an inconsistency or incongruence between what the client says and does.
{ Alt: A communication that deliberately pressures or invites another to self-examine some aspect of behaviour in which there is a discrepancy between self-reported and (externally) observed behaviour. }

Affect: Generalized feeling tone (usually considered more persistent than emotion, less so than mood).
